Efterklang, Since their debut in 2004, adventurous Danish trio Efterklang has continuously redefined their sound, drawing on elements of pop, indie rock, post-rock, and electronic music. Their concerts are known for their openness and sense of exploration, where intricate compositions unfold in an engaging and dynamic setting.
Zea & Drumband Hallelujah Makkum, On the most recent Frisian album of Zea, for over a quarter-century, the musical moniker of Arnold de Boer, his poetic songs are given an enchanting, rhythmic foundation by the sixteen-member Drumband Hallelujah Makkum, supporting the minimalist trance of guitar, cello, clarinet, and drums.
Keenan Mundane x Sorza, We didn’t have a rapper like Keenan Mundane in the Netherlands yet – experimental, searching, mixing styles. With Sorza, the experiment pushes the boundaries, leaving the laboratory, so to speak.
Jimmy Rosenberg Trio, Jimmy Rosenberg is adored by some of the most famous names: Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Herman van Veen, James Brown – to name a few. Jimmy Rosenberg’s gypsy jazz has taken him to every corner of the globe, from New York to Oslo, and now, simply, with his trio to Leiden.
White Magic for Lovers, Brighton-based White Magic For Lovers draws on a rich indie rock history; from 60s folk rock to the New Acoustic Movement to dreamy new wave, it’s all there. It’s also the depth of their songs and the beautiful melodies that make White Magic For Lovers such a special act.
zZz, Bach, The Doors, zZz—a logical list, but only the last one inspires exuberant dancing. zZz is back with “Konnichiwa, Guten Tag, Money Money,” and that’s excellent news. The album is an album without pauses, “nur bangers,” as the Germans would say. You can take that even more literally, live.
Mother Tongue, A Senegalese Griot singer, a Korean jazz drummer, and an Amsterdam multi-instrumentalist / instant composer find each other on an open playground. With m’bira, xalam, drumkit, voice, percussion, household tools, and an electric clavichord on 220 volts, they sit down and take off.
Minji Kim, draws inspiration from her surroundings. In the case of PSAS, the waters of Leiden play a significant role. The live soundscape consists of recordings of the Leiden canals, and just as you never know what’s coming with water, her performance is also fluid. Minji Kim is part of the ACPA program.
I. M. Polite, ‘Why are there so many hoodless raincoats?’ – an excellent question, but you won’t get an answer from rapper I.M.Polite. The Flemish artist’s quest takes you cheerfully through funk, soul, R&B, jazz, and finally back to hip-hop, where the question will be asked again
Bombstrap, Brand new vicious four-piece band, often referred to as Rotterdam terror punk, preferring the weirder side of hardcore. Coming to hit you with their politically charged rage, in the form of a visually dangerous and conceptually subversive show, they invite you to explode with them.
Able Noise, Alex and George’s experimental baritone guitar and drum duo, based between The Hague and Athens. Through the use of voices, tapes, and alternative methods of playing their instruments, they create a minimalist and visually striking performance that explores the acoustics of space, the roles of performer and audience, and the physicality of performing.
Michaelis Kouloumis & Tristan Driessens Duo, Cypriot violinist Michalis Kouloumis and Belgian oud-player Tristan Driessens bridge the gap between classical and folk music from Turkey, Greece and beyond. Their repertoire ranges from original compositions in classical Ottoman style to traditional rural dances from Cyprus and Anatolia. With their fresh interpretations and adventurous approach, they are constantly exploring new musical horizons.
Hamid Reza Behzadian, The blues belongs to everyone. Iranian Hamid Reza Behzadian embraces all forms of the blues: the well-known American blues, which he colors with a wailing slide guitar, and the Persian and Middle Eastern blues. A unique combination that earned him a cum laude degree from the Codarts Conservatory.
Glupi Komputer, Polish trio Głupi Komputer manifest a middle finger to Big Tech, AI-driven music, hyper-capitalism and consumerism. They play low-tech electronic music, as a final scream of cyberpunk society and an attempt to find humanity and vibrate the natural environment – combining avant-garde jazz, heavy electronics, toxic drum’n’bass and pop ballads into one continuous, danceable set.
Space Siren, a seminal force in the Dutch independent music scene, sprouted from the flower bulb region close to Leiden. For over twenty years, Space Siren recorded and released inventive, dreamy, and noisy guitar music that inspired audiences and several generations of new bands. On their farewell tour, performing as a quintet, the band still celebrates music, camaraderie, and the harmonious blend of Fender guitars and an awful lot of effect pedals.
Lelee, This trans-Balkan trio quickly became one of the key protagonists of the regional indie scene, with their blend of Yugoslav new wave aesthetics, indie-via-slacker rock sensibilities, the ethos of modern-day indie mavericks revisiting the past for inspiration, and a sprinkle of Adriatic temperament
Isa Desmet & Uther Smis, Traditional storysongs and poems, lovingly dragged through the mud and rewired with harmonium, voice, fiddle, keys and a pocket of odd electronics. Narrative dronefolk that didn’t feel the need to stay acoustic – sometimes sweet, sometimes dark and cursed. Probably not danceable.
History Repeating Walks, Music history is everywhere, but not for the taking. After a series of stories in the Leidsch Dagblad and a podcast, there’s now History Repeating Walks. In this city walk, Martijn van Lith and Mark Siera take you to various places in Leiden where remarkable music stories took place. From Green Day to Nina Simone, from Ben Webster to Schoolly D. The tour will be in Dutch.
Tim Shaw, With twenty walkers and twenty wireless headphones, Tim Shaw takes you on a walk through Leiden. The live recordings he makes and edits allow you to experience the city in a whole new way—and become part of the improvised composition yourself.
Bibikov & Augenapfel, Ferrie Heyne (De Kift) en Luc Ex (ex-The Ex) are two independent musicians that have known each other since the turbulent ‘80s. Armed with trumpel, guitar, acoustic bass and samples, they narrate and sing about the miraculous adventures of the two mountaineers Augenapfel en Bibikov. Who, in turn sometimes believe they are actually Don Quichotte and Sancho Panza. Extraordinary events told in the form of extraordinary songs.
